At the jurisdiction’s direction our internal audit identified two businesses reporting sales tax in error to this jurisdiction. They were the jurisdiction’s major sales tax contributors. Fixing the reporting problems forestalled a potential financial crisis when the incorrect cumulative sale tax reported was eventually discovered and reversed.

Our work increased the sales tax from a group of companies by $264,000/yr. or 275%. Our staff also identified under-paid back taxes from certain companies that when resolved resulted in over $100,000 in one-time recovered taxes.

A local business was not collecting the correct tax to the jurisdiction and our staff worked with the company’s staff to correct its reporting. Also identified was another group of companies reporting tax significantly less they should have been.
